Here's how to change your Hobotech TiVo to use the new emulator. You will need to do this by the end of June 2008 or you won't get any guide data! Don't worry, it's easy!
The following instructions assume you haven't made any changes to the TiVo yourself, if you have then I'll also assume that you know how to fix it yourself!
If you know how to telnet to your TiVo and edit a file all you need to do is edit:
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author
and change 131.244.9.101 to 65.49.60.197 and reboot TiVo, that's it, just one tiny change!
If you don't know how to do that, just try to follow these simple instructions...
Download and install 'PuTTY' from http://www.putty.nl/download.html. When you run it, put your TiVo's IP address (which is sent to "messages" on your TiVo whenever it is rebooted) in the 'Host Name' box and select 'telnet' as the protocol (the port should be set to 23). Click the 'Open' button and it should connect to your TiVo and display a screen with a prompt which looks like this...
[TiVo [p0] ~]#
Now type rw and you should see a message telling you that the file system is now read/write.
Now we'll use the editing program called joe to edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author file, just type:
joe /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author
and the file will be opened for editing. Scroll down a heap of lines (by pressing the down arrow key) until you see a line which looks like:
emuProxy2 -s 131.244.9.101 &
change that line so it looks exactly like this...
emuProxy2 -s 65.49.60.197 &
(The ampersand (&) on the end is important, make sure you don't delete it!)
If you mess up and want to get out of it without saving, hit "control+c" and reply y to the message asking if you want to lose changes. Then start over. But if you are satisfied that you've edited it correctly hit "control+k" then x to save the file and exit.
All that remains is to type ro to turn the file system back to Read Only and then type exit to close puTTY.
Reboot the TiVo and you're finished. You can either now force a daily call via TiVoweb, or wait until the TiVo makes its normal daily call. Following the daily call you should see a message welcoming you to the new server.

Good luck!
